Ground-breaking Work to End Child Trafficking

Support Center for Child Advocates is the oldest and largest pro bono lawyer program in the U.S. dedicated exclusively to children and youth, teaming attorneys with social workers to advocate for victims of child abuse and neglect.

The organization’s Philadelphia Response & Outreach To End Child Trafficking (Project PROTECT) identifies and addresses gaps in representation and services for Philadelphia youth who have experienced trafficking. They engage in direct representation, local resource development, macro-level advocacy and initial preparation of prevention strategies and programs, in preparation for a more expansive multi-year effort to end child trafficking in Philadelphia.

Why we funded
  • Philadelphia is a hub for child sex and labor trafficking and SCCA is at the forefront of developing and advocating for policies that will protect youth vulnerable to and engaged in trafficking
  • Those most at risk for child trafficking are Fels’ focused populations: youth involved in the child welfare system and immigrants & refugees
  • Their approach is from the perspective of youth empowerment while working to change a system that has a history of disempowering and punishing youth who are forced or coerced into trafficking
