Opening Doors for New Americans since 1882

HIAS stands for a world in which refugees find welcome, safety and freedom. The organization works around the world to protect refugees who have been forced to flee their homelands because of who they are, including ethnic, religious, and sexual minorities. Through innovative community-based programs focused on legal protection, psychosocial support and livelihoods assistance, HIAS PA resettles refugees in Philadelphia and helps them utilize their inherent capabilities to improve their lives.

Why we funded
  • HIAS PA provides multiple services that help refugees and asylum seekers to make a strong start in Philadelphia
  • They have robust partnerships with other agencies involved in post resettlement
  • Amid rising hostility in the U.S. towards immigrants and refugees, the agency stands firm in its commitment to protect and provide guidance to newly arrived refugees while offering critical resources
